Greater than seven lakh voters will determine the destiny of 249 candidates contesting within the fourth section of the District Improvement Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday.
The polling might be held between 7 AM and a couple of PM in 34 constituencies — 17 every in Kashmir and Jammu divisions.
Apart from DDC elections, polling might be held for panchayat bypolls in 50 vacant sarpanch seats and 216 vacant panch seats falling inside the DDC constituencies, an official spokesman stated.
Thus far, three phases of the maiden DDC elections, the primary democratic train in Jammu and Kashmir after the reorganization of the erstwhile state final 12 months, had been held on November 28, December 1 and December four, registering a voter turnout of 51.76 per cent, 48.62 per cent and 50.53 per cent, respectively.
Within the fourth section, out of the overall 280 DDC constituencies within the Union Territory, 34 are going to ballot, the spokesman stated.
Within the 17 DDC constituencies of Kashmir division, 138 candidates, together with 48 girls, are within the fray. In Jammu division, 111 candidates, together with 34 girls, are contesting on this section.
“There have been 123 sarpanch vacancies notified within the 4th section and out of those 45 have gotten crammed unopposed. There shall be a contest in 50 constituencies and 137 candidates, together with 47 girls, are within the fray,” the spokesman stated.
Equally, he stated, out of the overall 1,207 panch vacancies notified on this section, 416 have gotten crammed unopposed and there’s no contest in these constituencies. Polling would happen in 216 panch constituencies and there are 478 candidates within the fray together with 129 girls, the spokesman stated.
Within the 4th section, he stated, 7,17,322 electors are eligible to forged their votes — three,76,797 males and three,40,525 girls.
Amongst them, three,50,149 are from Jammu division and three,67,173 from Kashmir division, the spokesman stated.
He stated there are 1,910 polling stations throughout the union territory for this section — 781 in Jammu division and 1,129 in Kashmir division Of the 1,910 polling stations, 1,152 are hyper-sensitive, 349 are delicate and 409 have been categorized as regular.
The spokesman stated all preparations for this section are in place.
In view of the Covid-19 pandemic, enough preparations have been made to make sure security of all stakeholders, together with voters.
He stated sanitiser, thermal scanners and face masks have been organized on the polling stations to make sure that SOPs issued by the authorities involved are strictly adopted on the polling stations.
Particular polling stations at Ladies School Gandhinagar, Jammu and Women Larger Secondary Faculty Udhampur have been set as much as facilitate bodily voting by Kashmiri migrants, the spokesman stated.
