In a significant setback to the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, Bharatiya Janata Occasion (BJP) candidate M Raghunandan Rao has defeated Solipeta Sujatha in a nail-biting end to clinch the Dubbaka Meeting seat with a margin of 1,470 votes.
Rao polled 62,772 votes, whereas Sujatha acquired 61,302 votes within the by-poll that was necessitated after the sitting MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy died in August. The TRS had determined to area his spouse Sujatha in a bid to retain the seat.
Congress candidate Cheruku Srinivas Reddy acquired 21,819 votes.
In a keenly contested battle, the BJP candidate had taken early lead as counting started on Tuesday morning. Although the TRS made some late positive aspects, it was not sufficient to recoup the early losses. Rao emerged victorious after getting a majority of votes within the last 4 rounds.
Although the loss doesn’t influence its tally within the Meeting, the defeat is a public blow for the ruling get together and a morale booster for the BJP, which has only one seat within the 119-member Meeting.
