India and the US have held large ranging discussions on points on the UN Safety Council agenda and agreed to work carefully given their shared values of democracy, pluralism and rule-based worldwide order, officers right here stated.

India has been pushing for reforms of the United Nations, together with the Safety Council, stating that its composition would not replicate the present realities and isn’t consultant sufficient.

The united states has 15 members, together with 5 everlasting members – the US, the UK, France, Russia and China. China is the one everlasting member of the us which is against India’s inclusion into the highly effective organ. Half of the 10 non-permanent members are elected yearly for a two-year time period.

Indian delegation for the two-day consultations on Wednesday and Thursday was led by Vinay Kumar, Extra Secretary (Worldwide Organisation and Summits) within the Ministry of Exterior Affairs.

The delegation included senior officers from the Ministry of Exterior Affairs, the Everlasting Mission of India in New York and the Embassy of India in Washington, DC.

The US delegation was led by Pamela D Pryor, Performing Assistant Secretary for State Division’s Bureau of Worldwide Organisation Affairs, and included different senior State Division officers. PTI
