Bihar’s Panchayati Raj minister Kapil Deo Kamat succumbed to Covid early on Friday at AIIMS, Patna, household sources stated.
He was 70.
Kamat is survived by two sons and 4 daughters. His spouse died just a few months in the past.
“Kapil Deo Kamat died of Covid at 1.50 am (Friday) right here at AIIMS, Patna. He was affected by kidney failure and had been on ventilator over the previous few days,” Dr Sanjeev Kumar, the COVID-19 nodal officer of AIIMS Patna, informed PTI.
The JD(U) MLA from Babubarhi meeting constituency was admitted to the hospital on October 1 after he examined optimistic for the illness.
Condoling the demise of the minister, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar stated Kamat could be cremated with full state honours.
“He was an environment friendly administrator and a well-liked chief. I’m personally saddened by Kamat’s premature demise. His demise has precipitated an irreparable loss to the sector of politics,” Kumar stated.
Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi and a number of other different leaders additionally mourned Kamat’s demise. Modi termed his demise as “unlucky”, and stated Kamat all the time sympathised with the poor.
The JD(U) has fielded Kamat’s daughter-in-law Meena from Babubarhi this time, as he was not preserving properly.
Babubarhi is about to go to polls throughout the third part of the Bihar elections, on November 7.
Kamat is the second minister in Nitish Kumar’s cupboard to succumb to the an infection this week.
