The NIA in the present day stated it had arrested octogenarian human rights activist and tribal chief Father Stan Swamy from his home in Ranchi for his alleged position within the Bhima-Koregaon violence close to Pune on January 1, 2018. Father Stan has been remanded in judicial custody until October 23.
Sources stated he was an lively member of the proscribed CPI (Maoist) and had acquired funds via an affiliate for the organisation’s actions. “He’s a convener of the Persecuted Prisoners Solidarity Committee (PPSC), a frontal organisation of the CPI (Maoist). Father Stan was allegedly involved with Bhima-Koregaon conspirators Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Surendra Gadling, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves, Hany Babu, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, Varavara Rao, Sudha Bharadwaj, Gautam Navlakha and Anand Teltumbde for furthering the group’s actions.
The NIA has filed a charge-sheet in opposition to eight individuals, together with Navlakha, Father Stan and Teltumbde, for allegedly inciting violence in Bhima-Koregaon. The cleric is the sixteenth particular person to be arrested within the case. — TNS
