A constable was transferred after a video of him searching for the caste particulars of a motorist to situation a challan for not sporting a masks in neighbouring Tirupur district went viral on the social media, police stated on Friday.
With the district administration issuing orders to penalise these not following lockdown norms like sporting a face masks, the constable, Kasirajan stopped the two-wheeler rider at Tirupur-Perumanallur junction on Thursday.
Because the motorist was not sporting a masks, the constable sought his particulars and likewise the caste title to situation a challan, which irked the person and resulted in an argument between the 2, police stated.
A video of the 2 arguing went viral on social media as we speak, following which the police division transferred Kasirajan to the Armed Reserve wing, police stated.
In the meantime, the district Collector Dr Okay Vijayakarthikeyan assured that a detailed inquiry can be carried out into the matter, official sources stated. PTI
